What is a “non-profit” film project?
The two major distinctions of a non-profit film project have to do with donations and proceeds. As a non-profit film project, all donations made to the film are tax-deductible. This designation also allows us to apply for grants. “For-profit” films are not eligible for either of these benefits. Regarding the proceeds from the movie. When the movie is finished and paid for, all proceeds that come in from DVD sales and broadcast rights will be deposited with our fiscal sponsor. A committee from our fiscal sponsor and Howell at the Moon Productions will then decide how to best spend this money. The requirement is that this money is spent on non-profit projects that have similar missions to the fiscal sponsor and to Pedal Driven. Can you imagine if this film generated hundreds of thousands of dollars that went towards trail access, sustainable trail building, NEPA analysis, and existing trail maintenance? We can. We thank the Chelan Douglas Land Trust for being our non-profit sponsor. Without them, this wouldn’t be possible.
Is the Chelan Douglas Land Trust funding this project?
The Land Trust has been very generous in creating this fiscal partnership to allow this project to be “non-profit”. This is extent of the relationship. They have not, nor will in the future be donating any cash assets to this project.
What’s the timeline for the documentary?
Fundraising will determine how fast this movie can be completed. If all the money was raised, we would be filming this summer and fall (2009) and editing this winter for release in early 2010.
How can I see “Pedal Driven” once it’s finished?
There are a variety of ways you will be able to see the film when it is completed and we continue to work to add to this list all the time. It will be available on DVD through the Pedal Driven website and mountain bike shops throughout the country. We are confident that we can utilize many public broadcast avenues such as PBS, the Documentary Channel, Sundance Channel, and others. We also have plans for a promotional tour for the film. Keep tuned to the website for updates.
